Why transit testing belongs in your carton sourcing

Corrugated board grade, flute and ECT/BCT values tell you about materials. Customers care about delivered products: product + dunnage + outer carton + closure + the real distribution chain. When 3B fits better

If your outbound flow is palletized and frequently rides LTL or mixed consolidations, 3B better represents the hazards. Clamping, top‑load and truck vibration can crush poorly designed corners, weak scores or inadequate wraps. Simply upgrading GSM often wastes money; structural choices (0203 vs 0201, telescope lids, wrap‑around), dunnage layout and pallet restraint usually yield a bigger gain per dollar.

When Amazon 6‑SIOC/Over‑Boxing matters

For any ASIN that must pass Amazon’s certification, 6‑Amazon is non‑negotiable. Compared with 3A, it emphasizes alignment with fulfillment practices: the package’s most stable orientation on conveyors, top‑load with vibration, and consumer‑ready condition. If you sell via both Amazon and non‑Amazon channels, plan parallel validations: 6‑Amazon for the retail program, and 3A/3B for your other lanes.

What to prepare before you book a test

  • Build‑as‑shipped samples: finished product, final inserts, the exact outer carton and the closure method (tape type/width, strap, film).
  • Shipping orientation: define the most stable face/edge/corner and label marks used in distribution.
